Spring Notes

Well it is officially Spring here in Elkhorn. I know because I got my first mosquito bite this weekend. Bridget we have these early this year to welcome you to Wisconsin. We will try to get a snowstorm or 2 in or maybe a thunderstorm, better yet how about both so you can be welcomed back properly. Now back to my mosquito bite, I was scratching it and said laughing to myself "sure hope I don't get West Nile Virus." I know that may sound stupid to you but I have more to that story. I remembered a time I went to a new doctor and was getting acquainted. I had written down my medical history and thought I was through. We talked about my surgeries and medications then proceeded with the exam. The doctor looked at my scar the length of my sternum and said " What is this from?" Oh I had a couple of heart surgeries in the late 80s I guess I forgot to put that down. Well I still chuckle because I have been trying for several months now to get a complete and accurate history of my health events and every time I think I'm done someone kindly reminds me of another event, so what the heck West Nile sounds like a good laugh to me.

Well Seib family just wanted to say have fun with Bridget and her cute kids I know you will make some great memories and scrapbook pages.

A trespasser on our property

It's not very often you see this... (Click the picture to enlarge it)

I wanted to share with you a little picture I took this morning. I was at the kitchen sink doing the dishes when I glanced up to see the most adorable red fox walking down the sidewalk of the barn towards the house. She was just precious... so I run, drippy, soapy hands & all - to my desk in the living room to grab my camera. I snapped this picture of her jumping up on our front fence before crossing the road. She made the stone wall look like it was built of legos... such a powerful jumper she is.

She ran across the street, waited for a truck to pass, then ran back to our side of the street and into our woods. Quite a special sight to see.

Now, I'm going out to rake the yard... get up all the dead brown grass so we can have a lush green lawn to mow this summer!

Hope you all have a wonderful day! Lots of Love!

Casey Update

Well there is good news for Casey. She is at home and will continue with outpatient therapy. They should be able to come to her home for therapy since her diving leg makes it impossible for her to drive herself to VanMetre. I have a link to the latest article about Casey and Bill has some heartwarming observations in the article as well.

Casey Update

Hello Everyone this is Julie, Well there is some good news to report today about Casey. She moved from OSF St. Anthonys to Van Matre Health South Rehabilitation Hospital. She is one step closer to going home and there is nothing she wants more than to get home with her family. She has had some pretty rough days and like anyone in the hospital she was getting very anxious to get out. So it is good that she got to move today and can begin the next phase of getting mobile. I believe she is there to learn how to use her walker since her leg has a couple of rods and some pins. I think it would be great if she got some cheery cards to keep her spirits up since the rehab will probably be a bit painful. for those who have already sent cards she has been very happy to recieve them and I know they mean a lot to her. Here is the address:

Van Matre Rehab Hospital (I shortened the name)
950 S. Mulford Rd.
Rockford, IL 61108

Casey Mahlum Room 113
There is also an article in our county paper if you want to read how angels were in action.

Have a great Easter Week! Julie
P.S. Oh Yea I forgot something pretty cool. Casey was the first patient in a brand new wing at Van Matre. They announced a new patient in room 113 and then she heard applause over the intercom. Sure must have made her feel better especially since she can also wear regular clothes now.
P.P.S. One more thing. Dawn's friend since high school works at Van Matre.
